GIUSEPPE MARINO

Technician (past member, stilL herE!)

Giuseppe Marino was staff technique at Cybernetic Institute from1968 to 2013. His former activity with the Biology Division was focussed on electrophysiology approaches, either on cell cultures, chick embryos, xenopus oocytes, and in vivo, developing new methods for electrophysiological recordings in Hydra polyps. He also experienced biochemical tools (protein cromatography, electrophoresis, membrane preparation). Giuseppe is currently collaborating for Hydra and Nematostella culturing with the Nano-Biomolecular group. Polyps and anemoni mass culturing is achieved  by asexual reproduction (mitotic division of adults), while embryos production for developmental biology studies are allowed by sexual reproduction (induction of gametogenesis, fertilization and embryo culturing), leading to synchronous populations of swimming planulae and young polyps. Giuseppe collaborates actively in training graduated and undergraduated students in cnidarian culturing and he is a laboratory key person for animal and laboratory care.
